Hellenistic Natal Astrology: A Sourcebook

This is to announce the publication of a new Project Hindsight sourcebook to facilitate the study of Hellenistic natal astrology.

Hellenistic Natal Astrology: A Sourcebook is a revised and greatly expanded version of a sourcebook originally prepared by Robert Schmidt for an introductory course in Hellenistic astrology taught at Kepler College by Demetra George. The Sourcebook is designed in the same attractive 6x9 format as the volumes in our new translation series. In its present typeset format, it is around 400 pages and may grow a bit longer if we decide to add some additional text. As with The Astrologer's Edition of the Hellenistic astrological texts, it will be available in both trade paperback and hardback versions.

If you are not yet a subscriber to the translation series but you have heard about the recent surge of interest in Hellenistic astrology, this sourcebook is an excellent way to get a glimpse of its riches and find out what all the excitement is about. Through the definitive translations of Robert Schmidt, you can connect directly with thoughts and experience of the founding astrologers of the Western tradition. Of course, we hope readers of this book will be so intrigued by the selection of texts in the sourcebook that they will be overcome by an irresistible urge to subscribe to the entire series. But even if you do not chose to subscribe, this sourcebook alone will keep you better informed about the flowering of Hellenistic astrology currently taking place in the astrological community.

Hellenistic Natal Astrology: A Sourcebook is more than a representative sampling of Hellenistic astrological writings. A great deal of thought has gone into the selection and arrangement of texts. Improvement over the earlier editions is threefold. First of all, the sourcebook now shows more completely the full range of the Hellenistic system, and the texts have been arranged to bring out that systematic character more dramatically. Secondly, many more Hellenistic authors are now represented than before. Finally, the texts have been selected and arranged in such a way as to bring out the questions and issues that need to be addressed in order to secure the foundations of Hellenistic astrology and restore it to the status of a fully functional practical astrology.

Did you know that the English word thesaurus ultimately derives from a Greek word that meant “treasure?” And that treasures was a common title for astrological treatises in the Hellenistic era? In addition to the riches of the source texts themselves, Hellenistic Natal Astrology: A Sourcebook is also a kind of thesaurus or treasury of useful information about Hellenistic astrology. It contains a variety of auxiliary reference materials, such as an initial essay about Hellenistic astrology and its place in the tradition, a catalogue of Hellenistic astrologers, summaries of the contents of some of the more important texts, as well as numerous helpful diagrams and tables, and a complete glossary of Hellenistic terms, all assembled in one volume for your convenience.

At once a sourcebook and companion reference volume for students of Hellenistic astrology, Hellenistic Natal Astrology: A Sourcebook should be in the library of every serious astrologer.
